Assessment of Interrater and Intrarater Reliability of Cervical Range of Motion (CROM) Goniometer

Abstract: Purpose. The current study was designed to assess interrater and intrarater validity of cervical range of motion measurements performed with a CROM goniometer. Material and Methods. The study involved 95 healthy university students (31 males and 64 females) aged 20-24 years. Two examiners performed measurements of cervical range of motion using a CROM goniometer. The same subjects were examined again after two weeks, in the same conditions. The results acquired by one rater during the first and the second exam… Show more

“…Measurements made with the CROM goniometer showed inter- and intra-rater agreement on cervical ROM assessments. Therefore, the CROM goniometer is a reliable instrument for use in daily clinical practice [ 27 ]. The test-retest reliability of the measurements made with the CROM was verified, with ICC values for all cervical measurements ranging between 0.89 (CI: 0.73–0.96) for flexion and 0.98 (CI: 0.95–0.99) for extension, showing good validity [ 28 ].…”

“…These protocols measure the CROM using different instruments. The CROM device ( Williams et al, 2012 ; Wolan-Nieroda et al, 2020 ; Swinkels & Swinkels-Meewisse, 2014 ; Oliveira-Souza et al, 2020 ), inclinometers ( Prushansky, Deryi & Jabarreen, 2010 ; Audette et al, 2010 ; Yoo, Park & Lee, 2011 ), and the goniometer ( Williams et al, 2010 ; Luedtke et al, 2020 ; Swinkels & Swinkels-Meewisse, 2014 ) are instruments that are typically employed in clinical practice. Among these, the goniometer, due to its small size, portability, and low cost, is the most widely-used solution.…”
