Abstract:Proton beam RT has significant potential to improve treatment related side effects in the bowel compared to photon beam RT in patients with advanced cervix carcinoma.
“…One patient suffered delayed wound healing. Four patients (7%) reported some form of fecal incontinence, 6 patients complained about perianal pain, 1 patient about erectile dysfunction, and 3 patients had chronic diarrhea [5,7,8].…”

Preoperative radiochemotherapy is an effective and safe treatment for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer. Pathological parameters after preoperative radiochemotherapy, including tumor regression grading, could be correlated with disease-free survival. The impact of tumor regression grading needs to be further validated in prospective clinical trials.

“…Radiation treatment consisted of five weekly fractions at 1.8 Gy for a total dose of 50.4 Gy (a total of 28 fractions) were given to the pelvic lymph nodes and former tumor region with a 7-field IMRT plan generated in order to decrease the dose to the small bowel [5]. A boost was given to the clipmarked region +3 mm margins with five weekly fractions of 1.8 Gy to a total of 16.2 Gy with a stereotactic technique [21].…”
Cisplatin application with a modified dose (20 mg/m(2)) is feasible and safe in a patient with cervical carcinoma undergoing chemoradiation and hemodialysis.
“…The latter is driven by inverse planning approaches and computerized optimization modules which require certain input data [2,5,10,12,13,18,19,29,30,34,35]. Parotid gland sparing is one main motivation for IMRT in the head-and-neck region.…”
the mean dose, aV40 or aV26, revealed similar correlations with the excretion rate and with recovery. Hence, also absolute volumes can be used for treatment planning. Longer recovery times show higher ED50 values indicating partial regeneration of gland functions.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
