ObjectivesThis study assessed health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and its determinants among patients with psoriasis having follow-ups at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital (UoGCSH).Design, setting, and participantsA cross-sectional institutional-based study was conducted at the dermatologic clinic of UoGCSH from June to August 2022. Four hundred eligible patients with psoriasis were included in the study using a systematic random sampling technique.The main outcome measuredThe Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) measurement scale was used to assess HRQoL. The relationship between HRQoL and independent predictor variables was investigated using bivariable and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Statistical significance was defined as a p-value of <0.05 at the 95% CI.ResultsOf the 422 study subjects approached, 400 respondents with psoriasis were included in the final analysis. The mean (±SD) age was 39.8 (±17.2) years, and 56% were women. The most commonly prescribed medications were topical corticosteroids (68.3 %). The mean (±SD) DLQI was 13.05 (7.82). More than three-fourths (78.5%) of the patients' HRQOL was affected, and its severity ranged from very large to extremely large. Being male (adjusted odd ratio) (AOR) = 0.373, 95% CI (0.171, 0.773), the use of alternative therapy (AOR) = 0.237, 95% CI (0.114, 0.494), duration of diseases (AOR) = 0.184, 95% CI (0.061, 0.557), duration on medication (AOR) =3.75, 95% CI (1.32, 10.73), presence of comorbidity (AOR) = 6.199, 95% CI (1.921, 20.00), and income were found to have a significant association with poor HRQoL.ConclusionPsoriasis patients had reduced HRQoL, which was lower than that of the normal population. The study identified that several variables contributed to this reduced HRQoL. Predictors that take into account interventions were essential for preserving patients' HRQoL.

Background Psychiatric morbidities, which are commonly seen in psoriasis patients, are often missed or ignored leading to poor quality of life. A lack of communication between psychiatrists and dermatologists leads to ignorance of psychiatric morbidities in psoriasis patients, which can eventually take a severe form. Therefore, both groups must collaborate to provide high-quality patient care. As there is a dearth of such studies in the North-Eastern part of India, this study aimed to highlight the above-mentioned problem. Aim The aim of this study was to study psychiatric morbidities in patients with psoriasis and to compare quality of life in psoriasis patients with and without psychiatric morbidities. Methods This study was a hospital-based cross-sectional study conducted in the Dermatology Department, Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, Assam, India from July 2020 to July 2021. Ninety patients with psoriasis were included in the study and the diagnosis was confirmed by a consultant dermatologist, then the Mini International Neuro-psychiatric Interview Scale (M.I.N.I.; version 5.0) scale was applied to screen psychiatric morbidities. The diagnoses were confirmed using ICD-10 followed by dividing psoriasis patients into two groups, i.e. with and without psychiatric morbidities. After that the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL) scale was applied to both groups and the domains of quality of life were compared. Results Our results showed that 61.1% of psoriatic patients had psychiatric morbidities, which is abnormally high compared to other dermatological disorders. The psychological domain of quality of life was the most affected (WHOQOL scale scoring of 38.12±6.67 vs. 48.76±6.21) in both groups of patients (i.e., with and without psychiatric morbidities), and the environmental domain was the least affected (56.67±10.65 vs. 64.67±8.18). Every domain of quality of life had a lower score in patients with psoriasis with psychiatric morbidities as compared to those without ( p <0.05). Conclusion Our results of 61.1% psychiatric morbidities in psoriasis patients emphasize the need for psychiatric evaluation in every psoriasis patient. The timely intervention of psychiatric morbidity in psoriasis patients with collaboration of psychiatrists and dermatologists will surely improve the patient’s condition to some extent and, thus, their quality of life.

Background: Psoriasis is a complex disease with lifelong emotional and social consequences for affected patients. It also reduces the patients’ quality of life and requires a long-term management. Therefore, in addition to appropriate treatment of the disease, selfmanagement strategies to improve patient health and quality of life are essential. On the other hand, smartphone-based applications alter the way people interact with health care and public health systems. This study aimed at identifying training and informational components to develop a psoriasis self- management application. Methods: This descriptive-analytic study was conducted on 100 patients with psoriasis and 26 dermatologists who were selected randomly, using Morgan table. The data were collected using a researcher- made questionnaire, which included demographic and clinical information, lifestyle training and management, and application capabilities in psoriasis self-management. A group of experts and a test-retest method were used to confirm the validity and reliability of the questionnaire, respectively. Results: The mean scores for demographic and clinical information, lifestyle training and management, and application capabilities in self-management were 80.55%, 85.7%, and 88.8% from the patients’ perspective, and 83.7%, 71%, and 75% from the specialists’ viewpoint, respectively. Conclusion: Determining self-management components by patients as persons who are suffering from the disease and physicians as specialists in the field will be helpful in efficient psoriasis self-management. It is more likely that self-reliant patients, who are aware of the benefits and risks of their disease management application, will follow their treatment plan and pursue the management of their disease more seriously
