Assessment of groundwater vulnerability using modified DRASTIC model in Kharun Basin, Chhattisgarh, India

Abstract: An application of remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) has become one of the essential techniques in the field of hydrogeological science that helps in assessing, monitoring, conserving, and managing groundwater resources. In the present study, modified DRASTIC model has been used to access the groundwater vulnerable zone of Kharun Basin. The modification has been done by replacing hydraulic conductivity parameter to land use. The aim of this study is to determine susceptible zone for groundw… Show more

“…Groundwater vulnerability assessment plays a vital role in the utilization and aegis of groundwater resources (Antonakos and Lambrakis 2007;Meng et al 2011). DRAS-TIC model working in association with GIS has become a widely acceptable method for impressive management and planning of groundwater resources (Secunda et al 1998;Sinha et al 2016). DRASTIC model is used for detailed groundwater contamination vulnerability mapping while assigning rating to each parameter multiplying with the given weightage in ArcGIS (Al-Rawabdeh et al 2014;Al-Zabet 2002;Jaseela et al 2016).…”

“…The DRASTIC method is frequently used to study groundwater vulnerability (Shirazi et al, 2013;Sinha et al, 2016). In the United States, Hearne et al (1992), Merchant (1994) and Atkinson (1994); Kalinski (1994) used this method to assess groundwater vulnerability.…”
