Assessment of fodder resources in Ethiopia: Biomass production and nutritional value

Abstract: Fodders are the major feed resource in Ethiopia. This study was conducted to assess biomass production and nutritive value of fodder resources in Ethiopia. A total of 34 scientific papers and 30 Central Statistical Agency (CSA) (Ethiopia) reports for biomass production, and 249 scientific papers for nutritive value were used for this study. The biomass production of crop residues was greatest followed by grazing biomass, enset [Ensete ventricosum (Welw.) Cheesem.] and banana (Musa spp.) leaves and pseudostems.… Show more

“…( 2021 ), whereas the conversion factor used to estimate the ME energy value of natural pasture was consistent with Feyisa et al. ( 2021 ). The overall land used for grazing and forage biomass yields of DMY, CPY and MEJY in tones × 10 3 were recorded in decreasing order from cropping year 2007/08 to 2020/21 (Figure 2 ).…”

“…Based on the various possibilities offered by the valorization of this crop (Feyisa et al., 2022), it is therefore necessary to acquire information on productive capacity of OFI and its localization at the territorial level in order to evaluate its possible use for energy production.…”
