Assessment of electromagnetic field levels from surrounding high-tension overhead power lines for proposed land use

Abstract: The surrounding outdoor environment for new development has a big effect on the indoor quality of life. The main aim of this work was to determine the suitability of the area for building new schools with reference to electromagnetic field (EMF) effects. The specific objective of this study was to detect the safe distance from the EMF posed by the high-tension overhead power lines in the vicinity of the specified area. The measurements were taken for both the electric and magnetic fields in different months in… Show more

“….sinh 2 h ave Pij is the magnetic normal field coefficient determined by the coordinates of the i th boundary point and the j th filamentary line current and is given by [13]. (7) Rij is the distance between simulation current point j and match point i; Rj is the fictitious radius of current filament simulation (see Figure 2). We find another expression [12,14] which uses Equation (8) to calculate the magnetic coefficient.…”

“…Most assume that power transmission lines are straight horizontal conductors, parallel to a flat ground, and parallel to each other. The sag due to the line weight is neglected or modeled by introducing an average height for the horizontal line [7][8][9][10][11].…”

“…The effects that occur when these physical agents interact with biological systems depend on the frequency, amplitude of the fields, and exposure time. In the article [3], the installation of a safe distance of high-voltage power lines from residential complexes that are potentially in the zone of its influence is formulated. Measurements of the level of electric and magnetic field strength were carried out taking into account seasonal and daily fluctuations in electrical loads.…”

“…It can be assumed that the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with a living organism will depend on the amount and parameters of the transmitted energy, as well as on the type of irradiated tissue [2]. In the article [3], the specific goal was to determine the safe distance from the electromagnetic field created by high-voltage overhead power lines in the immediate vicinity of the specified section. Measurements were made for both electric and magnetic fields in different months in order to detect the highest levels of electromagnetic field fluctuations during peak loads.…”
