Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy of Dermoscopic Structures and Patterns Used in Melanoma Detection

Abstract: IMPORTANCE Dermoscopy increases the diagnostic accuracy for melanoma. However, the accuracy of individual structures and patterns used in melanoma detection has not been systematically evaluated.OBJECTIVE To assess the diagnostic accuracy of individual dermoscopic structures and patterns used in melanoma detection.DATA SOURCES A search of Ovid Medline, Embase, Cochrane CENTRAL, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted from inception to July 2020.STUDY SELECTION Studies evaluating the dermoscopic structures and… Show more

“…High‐risk adult patients continue to acquire new torso nevi throughout life, thus the appearance of a new melanocytic lesion in old age is not enough to determine that it is malignant, and if it is not an outlier, 27 has no melanoma‐specific dermoscopic structure 28 and shows dermoscopic features that fit with the body location and the patient's age, 29 follow‐up may be considered. In addition, most nevi display limited growth in diameter, which is not associated with malignancy.…”

“…Although most melanomas are pigmented, around 5–10% of cutaneous melanomas are amelanotic, which may cause delayed detection and worse prognosis ( Chen and Sebaratnam, 2021 ; Chuchvara et al, 2021 ). From dermoscopy through reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) to histology, this condition emphasizes difficulties in the diagnosis of amelanotic melanoma ( Li et al, 2021 ; Rasmussen et al, 2021 ; Williams et al, 2021 ).…”

“…Irodalomkutatásunkba 7 áttekintő közleményt (ezek közül 4-ben metaanalízist is végeztek) és 1 tisztán metaanalízist publikáló közleményt azonosítottunk (1. táblázat) [6,7,10,[34][35][36][37][38] a következő területeken: szűrési gyakorlat a melanoma korai diagnosztikájában és nyomon követésében, valamint a szűrés hatása a morbiditásra és mortalitásra [10,34], a dermatoszkóp szerepe a melanomaszűrésben [35][36][37] és a TBP-k és a digitális dermatoszkóp szerepe a melanomaszűrésben [6,7,38].…”
