Assessment of cone beam computed tomography for determining position and prognosis of interradicular mini-implants

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the influence of dynamic visualization of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans on orthodontist’s assessment of positioning status and prognosis of interradicular mini-implants (MI). Methods: Three MI positions were virtually simulated in thirty CBCT volumes: (1) MI 1 mm from the lamina dura (LD), (2) MI touching the LD and (3) MI overlapping the LD. Each position was exposed to orthodontists (n = 35) as panoramic reconstruction, sagittal reconstruction and a sequence of axial s… Show more

“…As bony and soft tissue landmarks are directly targeted during orthodontic treatment, a profound knowledge of midface anatomy is essential for orthodontists. In the maxilla, the T-zone has been established to safely place temporary anchorage devices (TADs), while the interradicular regions of both, the maxillary and mandibular buccal alveolar bones have proven to be equally suitable [ 21 , 33 , 34 ]. Since the correct placement is essential for the primary stability of TADs, the respective insertion regions are intensively studied in the literature.…”

“…This study endeavors to cope with this essential problem by utilizing CBCT to degree inter-radicular bone dimensions inside distinct boom styles, with the final aim of organizing a safe quarter for miniscrew implant placement. 2 Orthodontic treatment consequences are inspired not handiest by the inherent dental and skeletal discrepancies but also by the affected person's craniofacial growth pattern. Class I, class II, and class III disorder represent awesome growth styles with unique skeletal and dental manifestations.…”
