Assessment of Atrial Conduction Time in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Abstract: Atrial EMD is prolonged in patients with SLE. We have also shown that PWD, intra-atrial EMD, and interatrial EMD were significantly correlated with disease duration. This study calls attention to the following: the measurement of atrial conduction time may be clinically helpful in the definition of cardiac involvement.

“…Thus, prolonged PWD was detected in patients with metabolic syndrome, obstructive sleep apnea, and prehypertensive patients and this situation was correlated with the risk of AF development in the future . In addition, it was found that PWD was prolonged in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, in which diffuse systemic inflammation is observed . In two previous studies, it was demonstrated that PWD durations were prolonged in patients with psoriasis vulgaris .…”

“…Furthermore, it was reported that conduction system abnormalities were also increased in these patients. Previous studies also detected that the duration of P‐wave dispersion (PWD) was prolonged in psoriasis and similar chronic inflammatory diseases . In addition, Ahlehoff et al .…”

“…An association between AF development and inter and left intra atrial conduction delay with TDE has been described [22]. Inter and intraatrial conduction delays determined by TDE in rheumatological diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis [14] and SLE [15] and suggested that these would be early manifestations of subclinically cardiac involvement.…”

“…Recently, it has been shown that paroxysmal AF, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and subclinical hypothyroidism may impair LA functions and atrial conduction times [14,15,16,17]. However, to date, effects of a single HD session and acute volume-preload changes on atrial electromechanical conduction functions have not been investigated by TDE.…”

“…The heart-rate recovery index was evaluated in Familial Mediterranean Fever, Behcet's Di- sease, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and Psoriasis. Consequently, lower heart rate recovery indices were determined in patient groups than control groups [20][21][22][23] . In many studies, it was shown that decreased heartrate recovery index after exercise is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in healthy individuals [21][22][23][24] .…”
