Assessment of aquifer intrinsic vulnerability by the SINTACS method

Abstract: Application of the SFNTACS method for assessment of the intrinsic vulnerability of an aquifer is demonstrated in the catchment areas of the Jadro and Zmovnica springs. Both springs provide drinking water, supplying the population of Split and the surrounding settlements. Rapid economic expansion in the catchment area, accompanied with an increasing trend in the quantity of a number of contaminants in the spring water, prompted comprehensive investigations in order to finalise the Water Management Study of the … Show more

“…The low slope region contributes to water retention that provides water more time to percolate relative to high slope fields. Low-slope regions have higher contamination possibilities and are more susceptible to pollution from groundwater [9]. The topographical slope is obtained using Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of Landsat 8 having a resolution of 30m.…”

“…That methods were applied in several catchments worldwide and, because of the specific characteristics of some karst areas, some of the methods could be applied without modification of the parameters [28,29]; whilst others had to have some parameters modified [30][31][32][33][34]. For some areas, a comparative analysis of the use of several of the most common methods of intrinsic vulnerability mapping has been conducted [35,36].…”
