Assessment of anxiety in Mexican persons living with HIV using a culturally-adapted version of the GAD-7 test

Abstract: Our aim was to assess the severity of anxiety in PLWHA in Mexico City and obtain the psychometric properties of the culturally-adapted Spanish version of GAD-7. Thirteen percent of participants presented moderate to severe symptoms. Reliability (α = 0.82) and construct validity (single-factor explained 48.9% of variance) were evaluated in 411 participants. Confirmatory Factor Analysis was performed in a second sample of 527 participants. Model fit adequately (CFI = 0.991; CMIN/DF = 1.924; RMSEA = 0.042; and SR… Show more

“…Scores of 10-14 are associated with a moderate level of anxious symptomatology and values greater than or equal to 15 with severe symptomatology (Table 1). The validation in the Mexican population (Gutiérrez-Velilla et al, 2022) obtained a Cronbach´s α = 0.82, a single factor explained 48.8% of variance, and the confirmatory analysis showed a model fit adequately (CFI = 0.0991, CMIN/DF = 1.924, RMSEA = 0.042, and SMRMR = 0.026).…”

“…Those giving verbal consent to participate answered a structured interview, previously reviewed and discussed by psychologists, to collect sociodemographic information and data about the number of ART doses taken in the last thirty days. In addition, the General Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) [ 40 ], the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) [ 41 , 42 ] and the Alcohol, Smoking, and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST) [ 43 ] were applied. Psychologists gave feedback to the participants, according to their anxiety, depression, and substance use scores.…”

“…Anxiety symptoms were measured by using the culturally-adapted Spanish version of GAD-7 [ 40 ] which was validated in Mexican population living with HIV. The GAD-7 is a self-report scale based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) criteria for generalized anxiety disorder, including seven items scored from “0” (not at all) to “3” (nearly every day).…”
