“…A recent study demonstrated the capacity of Origanum onites (Lamiaceae) essential oil (OOEO) in the inhibition of cancer cell viability and proliferation and in the in vitro inhibition of tube formation and migration of rat adipose tissue endothelial cells (RATEC). The latter property indicates its capacity of blocking angiogenesis . The authors showed that the cytotoxicity values of OOEO are much higher on cancer cells, which is one of the characteristics that must be considered as a standard parameter that will allow the use of essential oils in the prevention and treatment of disease.…”

“…The antioxidant activity of O. onites EO was confirmed for cisplatin-induced hepatotoxicity in 96 Wistar white male rats [31]. Investigations of the ability to inhibit cell migration and antiangiogenic (prevention of new blood vessels capable of supporting tumor growth in vitro), antiproliferative [using MTT, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide), and apoptotic (DAPI coloration) activities in rat fatty tissue endothelial cells and 5RP7 cell culture (c-H-ras transformed rat embryo fibroblasts) found that O. onites EO inhibited markedly the vitality and induced 5RP7 apoptosis and could also block in vitro formation of vessels and RATEC migration [32]. Thus, O. onites EO and its principal constituents possessed antioxidant activity and inhibited carcinogenesis.…”
