Assessment of ammonia and greenhouse gas emissions from broiler houses in Portugal

Abstract: a b s t r a c tBroiler husbandry is a significant source of ammonia (NH 3 ), nitrous oxide (N 2 O), carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and methane (CH 4 ) emissions but scarce studies have been made under Mediterranean conditions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the NH 3 , N 2 O, CO 2 and CH 4 emissions on commercial broiler houses under Portuguese winter conditions. The study was made on a commercial broiler farm located in central Portugal. Three tunnel ventilated broiler houses with similar equipment and producti… Show more

“…2017). Gas amonia yang dihasilkan dalam kandang berasal dari hasil fermentasi antara ekskreta dan litter kandang yang mengalami dekomposisi menjadi urea (Pereira, 2017). Kadar amonia yang tinggi mempengaruhi perfoma ayam, meningkatkan kerentanan penyakit dan mortalitas tinggi (Miles, Branton, dan Lott, 2004).…”

“…Notably, livestock production is responsible for GHG emission attaining 20-25% of global entire emission, of which approximately 70-80% stems from animal farm industries [8][9][10]. Poultry farm is an important sector that consumes large quantities of fuel all over the world.…”

“…Agriculture, forestry, and other land use (AFOLU) sectors are often the primary focus. For example, manure from American dairy farms [3], forest degradation in developing countries [4], broiler husbandry in Portugal [5], coastal wetlands in the United States [6], Canadian managed forest [7], harvested wood products in several countries [8], and drained organic soils in Germany [9] have been recently studied. Analysis in this first subdivision often focuses on developed countries.…”
