“…Standard Bariatrics (Cincinnati, OH, USA) has developed a novel linear stapler called Standard Titan to perform a sleeve gastrectomy with a single stapler firing. This device aims to decrease technical and mechanical failure by eliminating junctions along the staple line, decreasing tissue manipulation and operative time while optimizing gastric tissue compression [40].…”

“…Another surgery in which linear cutting staplers are well established consists of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (established standard of care), the most common bariatric procedure. In particular, the stapler is used to resect the lateral portion of the stomach [40]. In comparison with the other two staplers adopted in this surgery, Standard Titan highlighted the mechanical benefits of withstanding higher burst pressure with the notable advantage of single-load functionality.…”

“…Without multiple crossed staple lines, the Titan eliminates the surgeons’ search for and removal of the migratory “crotch staple” which has been identified as a risk of leak [ 11 ]. Comparative testing conducted on excised human tissue revealed the superiority of the Titan SGS stapler to two commonly utilized commercial devices in both staple line integrity and burst pressure, noting that over one third of experimentally created leaks occur at stapler junctions [ 12 ]. The Titan SGS has additionally been demonstrated as safe and effective in gastric resection in acute and chronic porcine studies.…”

“…Routinely, we use the same stapler size that we use for patients qualified directly for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). Considering the article by Salyer et al [4] about optimal stapler selection during LSG, and the careful balance between tissue compression, hemostasis, and mechanical integrity, sometimes, in patients prepared with intragastric balloon and increased stomach wall thickness, we change the staplers' size for higher ones. We regularly (not only after balloon insertion) suture all staple lines during LSG with 3-0 V-loc running suture.…”
