Assessing the safety of a civil engineering structure requires using a large quantity of data. These data are frequently "imperfect", meaning that they comprise uncertainty, imprecision and incompleteness. It is important to develop systems for assessing and controlling these imperfections in order to both quantify the quality of the data used to evaluate the condition of structures and decide on the corrective actions to reduce these imperfections. Here, we propose a generic approach to controlling the quality of the data used when analysing a dam. Different methodologies can be considered to implement this approach and an illustration is given for two methods developed independently: one by Hydro-Québec, in Canada, and another, by Irstea, in France.

La gestion des risques naturels est conditionnée par les prises de décision des acteurs concernés. Leurs décisions sont cependant prises sur la base de données et informations pouvant être nombreuses, hétérogènes et imparfaites. Il apparait alors capital de valoriser l'information en fournissant des outils d'aide à la décision permettant une gestion durable du risque. Cet article initie cet objectif en proposant des méthodes de détermination, de structuration et de valorisation des informations liées au risque torrentiel en considérant leur utilité et leur disponibilité pour chaque acteur concerné. Les travaux proposent une structuration des données sous forme d'arbres et une formalisation de données à l'aide d'indicateurs. Une analyse conduite auprès de différents acteurs d'une commune touchée par des crues torrentielles, montre des dissonances notamment entre données disponibles et données supposées disponibles et données disponibles et données utiles. Ces méthodologies et résultats sont réalisés dans le but de fournir aux décideurs et gestionnaires du risque torrentiel un outil centralisant l'information pouvant faciliter leur prise de décision. AbstractNatural hazards management depends on decisions made by risks players. However their decisions are made on numerous, heterogeneous and scattered data bases and information. Then it seems capital to valorize the information by providing decision support tools that enable a sustainable risk management. This article initiates this purpose by proposing methods of identifying, structuring and valuating information related to torrential risk considering their usefulness and availability regarding each actor involved. Those works propose a structuring of data using trees and a formalization of data using indicators. A real life test is also performed with the stakeholders group of a city affected by torrential floods. Those methodologies and results are carried-out in order to provide decision makers and managers of torrential risk a tool that centralizes information ; the final aim is to facilitate their decision-making. Ces risques peuvent être d'origine géologique comme les avalanches, les séismes ou les éruptions volcaniques, hydrologiques (inondations ou tsunami) et climatiques tels que les tornades, les cyclones, les intenses précipitations… Ces dernières peuvent causer des crues torrentielles ou des crues éclairs particulièrement dommageables. Ce fut par exemple le cas à Madeira ou à Rio de Janeiro en 2010, ou plus récemment dans les Pyrénées en France en 2013. Les crues éclairs tuent plus de personnes dans le monde que toute autre catastrophe naturelle (plus de 5 000 décès chaque année) et causent des millions de dollars en dommages matériels (World Meteorological Organisation, 2007). There are two main types of issues that may appear as a result of improper exploitation of such pieces of infrastructure. The first threat is a physical damage of the embankment, which may result in a breach. The other is the leakage of such a structure -in case of reservoirs that contain fluid chemical compound waste it might lead to a vast range of contamination.
