Assessment and conceptual design of a SOFC / TIG / TEG ‐based hybrid propulsion system for a small UAV

Abstract: Summary Improving the electricity output of a propulsion configuration of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can be effective in achieving the targets of controlling fuel consumption and high flight endurance. Recently, fuel cell‐powered UAVs have been developed to achieve these goals. In addition, the use of an integrated fuel cell‐based electric propulsion system can further improve power generation rate. On the other hand, due to the limited reports on fuel cell‐powered UAVs (especially solid oxide fuel cell … Show more

“…With the continuous development of socio-economic and defense forces, the electrical appliances on engineering and military vehicles are increasing, so there is an urgent need for a complete vehicle power generation system [1,2]. Since the vehicle self-generation system has a high energy utilization rate, it is widely used in engineering vehicles because of the elevated green and environmental protection value [3][4][5]. The main operating principle is that the redundant engine power drives the generator through the transmission.…”

“…The mechanical energy is converted into hydraulic energy by a force extractor, and the constant input speed of the generator is achieved through hydraulic speed control systems such as variable pump-quantitative motor system, bypass relief valve parallel hydraulic pump combined speed control system, or valve-controlled motor parallel throttling speed control [14]. An electronic regulator is designed to convert a voltage with a signi cant variation into a constant voltage through a circuit [5,15].…”
