Assessing the Quality of Calyx of Physalis alkekengi L. var. franchetii Based on Quantitative Analysis of Q-Marker Combined with Chemometrics and Machine Learning Algorithms

Abstract: Physalis alkekengi L. var. franchetii (PALF) is a traditional Chinese medicine, which is well known for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and expectorant properties. Its fruits and fruiting calyxes are used as dietary supplements and traditional herbs in China. However, the quality of calyxes is uneven, and it is prone to getting moldy or moth-eaten during storage. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fingerprints and multivariate chemometric methods were combined to evaluate quality,… Show more

“…Despite the abundance of medicinal resources in the calyx of PCF, and its many pharmacological effects, limitations such as its calyx characteristics, short storage period, and susceptibility to moth and mold hinder the effective use of these resources. Furthermore, the content of active ingredients is highly variable (Liu et al, 2021). Thus, it is essential to conduct comparative analyses of PCF's different medicinal parts and determine sex differences in their chemical composition and lifespan to identify parts with long storage periods and pronounced medicinal effects.…”
