Assessing the economic development of countries in the context of the tasks defined in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is essential from the point of view of determining progress in achieving the SDGs. It becomes especially relevant in periods of global challenges and disturbances, one of which is the COVID-19 pandemic. The goals of SDG8 and SDG9 contain indicators that are determined mainly by the state of development of the country’s economy, so the analysis of trends in their changes is important in the context of identifying trends in economic growth in general, as well as for evaluating progress in achieving these goals. The purpose of the study is to identify the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economic development of countries to achieve sustainable development goals and assess progress trends in the post-pandemic recovery of the economies of Eastern Europe by analyzing quantitative data from official statistical sources. The object of the study is the economic development of Eastern European countries in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study period covers the time range from 2017 to 2021 and includes both the pre-pandemic and pandemic periods. Eight countries of Eastern Europe were chosen as research objects. Indicators of official statistics related to SDG8 and SDG9 sub-goals were selected for analysis. The study showed a significant decrease in the values of most indicators, which was caused by the destructive effect of the pandemic. To assess the possible development trajectory, we calculated the estimated value of indicators for 2022 using the Holt-Winters method. The results showed that, despite some progress in 2021, in 2022, the values of the indicators are decreasing. Such estimates correspond to the trends provided by international institutions. We have built a composite indicator to assess the economic development trend comprehensively. The results of the evaluation confirmed the general trend towards a decrease in the level of economic growth in the context of the goals of SDG8 and SDG9 for all the countries of Eastern Europe selected in the study.

Regardless of the fact, whether governments of particular country implemented the strong lockdown measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 or not, the economies of each country all over the word have been suffered considerably due to the shocks caused by the pandemic. We observed slowdown of economic activity, macroeconomic instability and shifts in consumption preferences supplemented by rising unemployment as well as significant fluctuation of demand and production capability. The research problem addressed in this paper focuses on dynamic properties of output and inflation fluctuations that occur in response to economic shocks different magnitudes and types. We use a system dynamic approach and constructs two system dynamic models to examine the dynamics of output, prices, wage and inflation. The paper indicates ranges of relevant parameters’ values that correspond with sensitivity of output to demand and production capability changes related to possibility of reaching new equilibrium point. To explore the variety of prices and wage behavior in response to shocks we evaluate distinguish possible phase diagrams associated with stable node, stable focus, circle, unstable focus and unstable node. The results is a contribution to discussion of the policy issues related to mitigation of recession caused by unpredictable and strong shocks.

The purpose of this paper is to develop a machine-learning model for analyzing and predicting the number of hospitalizations of children in the Lviv region during the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. This wave is characterized by dominance of a new strain of the virus—Omicron—that spreads faster than previous ones and often affects children. Their high sociability and a low level of vaccination in Ukraine resulted in a sharp increase in the number of hospitalizations. The complexity of the research is also related to the geolocation of the Lviv region. This article analyzes and predicts the number of hospitalizations of children during the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic for the first time for the Lviv region. Data were obtained from publicly available resources. Public Domain Software—the Python programming language and the Pandas library—was used for software implementation of the machine-learning method: the developed model consists of two components—analysis and prediction. The analysis of the number of hospitalized children was performed using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Short- and medium-term predictions were made with the use of non-iterative SGTM neural-like structures that were taught in supervised mode and tested in online mode. The RMS and maximum ones that were reduced to the range of error values of short-term (up to a week) and medium-term (up to 2 weeks) predictions did not exceed 0.48% and 0.61% and 1.81% and 2.83%, respectively. The developed model can also be used for predicting other COVID-19 parameters.
