Assessing the Effects of Market Power on Electricity Reliability in China: Toward a Green and Reliable Market

Abstract: The transition to a low-carbon power system is among the measures to forge green energy transition and carbon neutrality, where grid firms have a crucial role. In this context, this paper uses the provincial data from 2004 to 2017 to evaluate the impact of market power of grid companies on service quality in China. Panel dynamic ordinary least square (DOLS) and fully modified ordinary least square (FMOLS) models are employed. The findings indicate that higher market power has indeed reduced reliability measure… Show more

“…Anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases, especially CO 2 from fossil fuel combustion, exacerbate global warming (Lacis et al, 2010;Montzka et al, 2011). To sustainably limit global warming, China declared striving to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 (Li et al, 2022;Liu et al, 2022). As a critical economic zone in China that is seriously threatened by sea-level rises due to global warming, the Bohai Economic Rim needs to develop new energies to replace fossil fuels in the electric industry to reduce CO 2 emissions (Zeng et al, 2008;Wang, 2010;Sayigh, 2021).…”
