Assessing the Effects of ILeVO and VOTiVO Seed Treatments on Reproduction, Hatching, Motility, and Root Penetration of the Soybean Cyst Nematode, Heterodera glycines

Abstract: Successful management of the soybean cyst nematode Heterodera glycines is limited by increased virulence of nematode populations on resistant soybean cultivars and persistence of the nematode in the soil in the absence of hosts. Seed treatments are now available for H. glycines management. However, it is unclear how these treatments affect specific life stages of the nematode. The objectives of this study were to assess the effects of ILeVO (with active ingredient fluopyram) and VOTiVO (with active ingredient … Show more

“…Some fungicides have also been studied in the control of nematodes. Fluopyram is a fungicide used in the management of soil-borne fungi and its efficiency in the control of plant-parasitic nematode has also been investigated (Beeman & Tylka, 2018;Faske & Hurd, 2015).…”

“…Fluopyram is classified as a succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor fungicide that is used extensively as a seed-and soil-applied nematicide in cotton and soybean. Fluopyram has been reported to be toxic to several species of plant-parasitic and free-living nematodes (Faske and Hurd, 2015;Heiken, 2017;Beeman and Movement of seed-and soil-applied fluopyram in soil columns Tylka, 2018). However, suppression of M. incognita infection on cotton and soybean has been somewhat variable in field trials (Hurd et al, 2017;Jackson et al, 2017;Faske et al, 2018).…”

“…Seed and radicle exudate collection. Seed and radicle exudates were collected using the method reported by Beeman and Tylka (2015). Seeds were incubated in sterile water at a ratio of one seed per five ml water for one hour on a platform shaker (100 rpm).…”
