Los paisajes del agua en destinos turísticos costeros pueden ayudar a reducir la saturación y estacionalidad que sufren este tipo de destinos basados en el recurso playa. A la vez, el turismo puede ofrecer argumentos para la conservación de estos paisajes, a menudo olvidados, creando una relación simbiótica entre turismo y conservación. Para ello se hace necesaria una valoración y tipificación de las cualidades de estos espacios para convertirse en recursos turísticos. En este artículo presentamos una metodología para valorar simultáneamente la calidad escénica de los paisajes y su potencial de atracción turística. La calidad escénica se enfoca con una perspectiva multisensorial, considerando no sólo el paisaje visual, sino también el sonoro y el olfativo. Para evaluar el potencial turístico se valoran aspectos como la relevancia, accesibilidad, calidad de los equipamientos y viabilidad a largo plazo. La metodología es aplicada y testada en tres paisajes del agua del destino turístico Costa Brava (Girona, España), demostrando suficiente fiabilidad para ser extrapolada a otros paisajes del agua.

The sea-breeze (SB) is an important source of summertime precipitation in North Carolina (NC, southeast United States). However, not all SB events produce precipitation. A climatology of wet and dry SB events in NC is used to investigate the conditions that are conducive to precipitation associated with the sea breeze.Radar imagery was used to detect 88 SB events that occurred along the NC coast between MaySeptember of 2009-2012. The majority (85%) of SB events occurred during offshore flow (53%) or during flow that was parallel to the coast (22%). SB events were separated into dry (53%) and wet (47%) events and differences in the dynamic and thermodynamic parameters of the environment in which they formed were analyzed. Significant differences in dynamic and thermodynamic conditions were found. SB dry events occurred under stronger winds (6.00 ± 2.36 ms -1 ) than SB wet events (4.02 ± 2.16 ms -1 ). Moreover, during SB wet events larger values of convective available potential energy and lower values of convective inhibition were present, conditions that favor precipitation. Overall, the SB wet events accounted for 20-30% of the May-September precipitation along the NC coastal region. The position of the North Atlantic Subtropical High (NASH) controls both moisture availability and winds along the NC coast, thus providing a synoptic-scale control mechanism for SB precipitation. In particular, it was shown that when the NASH western ridge is located along the southeast coast of the United States, it causes a moist southwesterly flow along the NC coast that may favor the occurrence of SB wet events.Keywords: Sea breeze; precipitation; North Carolina; North Atlantic Subtropical High; wind direction; wind speed. Polder watercourses within agricultural areas are affected by high chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD 5 ) concentrations, due to intensive farming activities and runoff. Practical cases have shown that constructed wetlands (CWs) are eco-friendly and cost-effective treatment systems which can reduce high levels of organic and nutrient pollution from agricultural discharges. However, accumulated recalcitrant organic matter, originated by in-situ sources or elements of CWs (i.e., plants or microbial detritus), limits the fulfilment of current COD discharge threshold. Thus, to evaluate its relevance regarding rivers ecosystem health preservation, we analysed the response of bio-indicators, the Multimetric Macroinvertebrate Index Flanders (MMIF) and the occurrence of organic pollution sensitive taxa towards organic pollutants. For this purpose, statistical models were developed based on collected data in polder watercourses and CWs located in Flanders (Belgium). Results showed that, given the correlation between COD and BOD 5 , both parameters can be used to indicate the ecological and water quality conditions. However, the variability of the MMIF and the occurrence of sensitive species are explained better by BOD 5 , which captures a major part of their common effect. Whereas, recalcitrant COD and the interaction among other physico-chemical variables indicate a minor variability on the bio-indicators. Based on these outcomes we suggest a critical re-evaluation of current COD thresholds and moreover, consider other emerging technologies determining organic pollution levels, since this could support the feasibility of the implementation of CWs to tackle agricultural pollution.
