“…The major feature of the Raman spectrum is a very strong, sharp line at 105 cm-1 with an apparent overtone at 212 cm-1. This absorption is assigned to the triiodide anion.31•32 Using similar analysis of their Raman spectra Marks et al 33•34 identified the iodine species in onedimensional phthalocyanine34 and glyoximato21•33 complexes as triiodide and pentahalide. The higher frequency features in the spectrum (predominantly >1000 cm-1) are consistent with the known Raman spectrum of TCNQ.35 Thus, from charge conservation 1 is best described by (NMe3H)+-(l3-)1/3(TCNQ)2/3-and possesses a 0.33 filled band.…”

“…The absence of any observable peak at $200 cm À1 eliminates pure iodine as an impurity (Anderson & Sun, 1970). The interaction of the I 2 molecule with two I atoms axially bonded to the central Mn results in the population of molecular orbitals with IÐI antibonding character, and hence a slight increase in the IÐI bond length, a decrease in bond order and constant stretching forces are observed (Cowie et al, 1979;Marks et al, 1976). This Raman spectrum is characteristic of complexes containing weakly interacting I 2 molecules (Teitelbaum et al, 1978(Teitelbaum et al, , 1980Mizuno et al, 1981).…”

“…3-D is an overtone). 7 The difference between 215 and 230 cm-1 is attributed to the substrata: bulk crystal or silver metal. The redox reaction of the silver iodide to give iodine and silver by light irradiation is suggested from these facts.…”
