“…Note that vertical displacement of the upper edges of the walls, which is produced due to the total rotation above them, lifts up one end of the beams, thereby causing them to rotate faster than the rest of the beams located at the same story level. Although the aforesaid connected beams are under considerable rotational demands, experimental and numerical investigations revealed that RC beams under cyclic loads would not fail to transfer gravity loads despite undergoing very large deformation demands . So it might be argued that as long as MRFs convey the expected gravity loads, the seismic performance of RC dual systems should be considered sufficient notwithstanding that some members may get damaged due to substantial rotational demands.…”

“…Proença et al and Gião et al, took into account the effects of gravity loads on beams (in steel and reinforced concrete beams) besides the quasi‐static cyclic loading. Proença et al applied a combined cyclic and gravity load procedure in steel beam to column connections.…”

“…Ductility is observed to decrease as the gravity load increase from 25% to 75% of the designed moment. Gião et al followed similar loading history in reinforced concrete beam specimens, where the gravity load was chosen as the half of the designed flexural moment. This procedure was a combination of forced controlled to impose the gravity load and displacement controlled to apply the reversed cyclic loading.…”
