Despite the crucial role that businesses have played in the adoption of green supply chains, it appears that manufacturing enterprises have not effectively utilized their responsibility to ensure green manufacturing. This study uses Bakhresa Foods Product Limited as a case study to better understand the constraints facing manufacturing firms engaged in green manufacturing and offers suggestions for overcoming them. A qualitative design was adopted and data was gathered via in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), indirect observation, and secondary data analysis based on a purposive sample size of 60 respondents. Using the MAXQDA 10 program, data were analyzed using the thematic analysis technique. The study's findings showed that constraints to reducing were associated with a lack of innovation, professionals, an understanding of economics and finance and presence of extensive inventories, and inadequate production planning. Remanufacturing was further constrained by poor technology, unfavorable consumer attitudes, and a weak market strategy. Other constraints with reuse came from poor customer attitudes and awareness, lack of uniform standards for materials and goods, and inadequate government support. Constraints to recycling include a lack of support from senior top management executives, significant upfront expenses, and low-quality recycled goods. Therefore, to improve the situation, we suggest that industries make use of modernized equipment, and clean technology, improve monitoring and evaluation systems, implement the lean production philosophy, and give education about the value of recycling programs.

The purpose of the article is to study the current international experience and determine the prospects for improving the environmental management of companies in the oil and gas markets based on AI in the interests of sustainable development. Relying on variation analysis and correlation analysis methods, it has been substantiated that environmental management have significant impact on companies from the perspective of social LCA, which has an impact on the competitive ability of companies. Relying on the IPAT-method, it has been proven that technology is a key factor which determines this impact. As a result, it has been proved on the example of the case experience of the largest energy companies in Russia in 2022 that the environmental management of oil and gas companies creates advantages not only for the environment but also for financial efficiency and stability (break-even operation) of these companies (implementation of SDG 8). Using the example of the international experience of energy companies (from the UAE, Sweden, the UK, the USA and Japan), it has been proved that AI can play a much greater role in the oil and gas markets, contributing not only to ensuring a deficit-free energy economy (the implementation of SDG 7) but also to environmental protection (the implementation of SDGs 13-15). The best practices of using AI in each selected sector of the oil and gas industry were studied and a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the benefits of AI was carried out. Thirdly, the most promising use of AI in the sector of environmental management for environmental economics and management is substantiated. It is proven that the options for environmental management can be different and specific to a particular object. Thanks to the results obtained in the course of the study, a systematic view of the prospects for the sustainable development of oil and gas markets has been formed, and the importance of AI for this process has been demonstrated. The theoretical significance of the study consists in expanding the existing understanding of the use of AI in the practice of environmental management of energy companies and clarifying its contribution to the implementation of the SDGs.

Purpose Petroleum companies have various goals in light of high energy prices, uncertainty and potential fluctuations in demand in the current digital age, including making a profit while maintaining long-term sustainability and lowering their environmental impacts. The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of technology management (TM) and its practices through process and maintenance technologies on sustainability performance (SP) for petroleum refineries and petrochemical companies in terms of economic, environmental and social sustainability. Design/methodology/approach A new proposed framework has been developed for a clearer understanding in relation to these aspects. The study was conducted among Egyptian refineries and petrochemical companies. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 65 petroleum experts and professionals, which was then summarized using statistical analysis, hypothesis testing and regression analysis. Findings The findings demonstrate that TM has a significant and direct impact on SP. Furthermore, the study shows that process technology (PT) has a positive influence on the three aspects of SP. Although maintenance technology has a positive impact on economic and environmental sustainability, it shows no direct effect on social sustainability. Research limitations/implications The degree to which TM and sustainability principles are implemented across petroleum companies in various countries varies significantly because of managerial and cultural dimensions. Therefore, when conducting the research, it is important to consider the study’s geographical area to comprehend how these practices are impacted by the distinctive managerial and cultural settings of each country. Also, respondents in developing countries do not participate in such surveys with much enthusiasm. Practical implications The study shows that implementing TM practices generates more economic stability and ensures environmental and social sustainability. The research studied how PT and maintenance practices affected each aspect of sustainability. These findings can apply to all downstream oil companies, regardless of their size or type of operations. Further research can be conducted to examine the relationship between variables in other industries. Social implications Decision-makers and managers may use the study's findings to improve their companies' performance and develop new plans and policies. The results demonstrate that companies will have a greater chance of achieving sustainable performance if they incorporate process and maintenance technologies into their activities. Besides economic and environmental sustainability, petroleum companies must strive for social sustainability. Originality/value The study is regarded as a significant contribution to the management of petroleum refineries and petrochemical companies, as it combined TM practices with SP in a single research framework. Industry executives and researchers can use this research as a guide that can be applied to all petroleum companies in the same country.
