Assessing Strategies for Reducing the Carbon Footprint of Textile Products in China Under the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways Framework

Abstract: To realize China’s target of carbon neutrality by 2060, the country’s domestic textile industry faces tremendous pressure to reduce emissions. We assessed the potential of socioeconomic conditions and climate policies for reducing the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of textile products in China up to 2050 using a life cycle assessment (LCA) approach and integrated assessment model (IAM) within the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSP) framework. The results showed that a combination of socioeconomic conditions an… Show more

“…The global textiles and apparel sector is a massive contributor to the climate predicament, and plummeting its effect is a necessity. The sector produces approximately 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually, more emissions than the freight and aviation industries combined (Peng et al, 2022;Ütebay et al, 2020). Consistent with a 2021 World Economic Forum report, the sector ranks third amongst eight (8) supply chains responsible for 50% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.…”

“…During these studies, it has been observed that energy efficiency and power saving directly contribute to these goals. It has been stated that reducing the carbon emissions of the energy system is essential to reducing the emission of textile products [2]. By following the total production planning, the total carbon footprint for the year 2018 was calculated and analyzed.…”

“…However, in the context of global energy scarcity, achieving the "dual carbon" goal is a transformative goal for the development of new energy. 1,2 According to the national grid connection standards GB/T14549 and IEEE1547, 3,4 the total harmonic distortion (THD) of electrical energy injected into the power grid must be less than 5%. However, because of the existence of nonlinear factors such as the dead time effect, switching tube conduction voltage drop, and grid voltage fluctuations in grid-connected inverter systems, it is difficult for inverters to maintain good performance; thus, the research on inverters is of great significance.…”
