Assessing safety conditions in underground excavations after a methane-air mixture explosion

Abstract: A technique for evaluation of shock wave impulse after a methane-air mixture explosion is elaborated. The numerical model developed in previous studies has been verified in the laboratory by using laser initiation of explosives and measuring the pressure impulses of explosion products on a ballistic pendulum. To evaluate the mechanical impulse the functional correlations between its magnitude, the swing angle, and the pendulum characteristics have been derived analytically. The reliability of experimental resu… Show more

“…To obtain the same pulse density, coatings of different thicknesses are required, i.e., using composites of different formulations, it is possible to change the exposure duration in a certain range. The pulse was determined using a pendulum [66,67] on the samples with a surface mass density (10−100 mg/cm 2 ) of the composite. The voltage oscillograms show that the plane front of a shock wave degenerates into the spherical one [68].…”

“…A laserinduced flat detonation wave in explosive charge 7 was followed by explosion of the initiating layer that contained BC2 lightsensitive com posite 6 with a mass density of 300 mg/cm 2 and a coating thick ness about 2 mm (Fig. 1, b) [38][39][40]. A flat detonation front formed by explosive charge 7 accelerated striking metal plate 9.…”
