With the accelerated urbanization and frequent occurrence of climate extremes, the regional ecosystem service level has ushered in a great challenge, and the resilience of the ecological network has gradually weakened, leading to lower ecological benefits and production levels. As a core ecologically sensitive area in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, Wuhan metropolitan area has been expanding outward with rapid urbanization, crowding out surrounding arable and ecological land, and facing serious challenges to the sustainable development of the national space, while current cross-regional ecological protection measures need to be strengthened urgently, and exploring the structural resilience of its ecological network is of great significance to promote regional stability. In this study, Wuhan metropolitan area is taken as an example, and we explore the evolution and laws of ecological network structure from the perspective of network analysis by constructing ecological networks in Wuhan metropolitan area in 2000, 2010, and 2020. Firstly, we select regions from the ecological control line developed in China as ecological source sites, and also select multivariate data to supplement them. Then, the ecological network was established using the MCR model. Finally, network analysis was applied to discuss the evolution of network structure under multiple times and propose corresponding conservation strategies. The results show that (1) the major ecological resistance of Wuhan urban area has increased by 5.24% in 20 years. (2) The centrality and connectivity of the network nodes have increased over the 20-year period, and the overall structure of the network has stabilized and the resilience of the network has increased. (3) There is a strong link between changes in the network as a whole and local resilience. The results of the study will help analyze the relationship between the network as a whole and the region, and provide reference for optimizing the ecological network and constructing the systematic management of ecological security pattern.

Purpose Recently, the serviceability of the transportation infrastructure in urban areas has become crucial. Any impact of the hazardous conditions on the urban road network causes significant disruption to the functioning of the urban region, making the city’s resilience a point of concern. Thereby, the purpose of the study is to examine the city’s recovery capacity to absorb the impacts of adverse events like urban floods. Design/methodology/approach This study examines the road network resilience for an urban flood event for zones proposed by the Municipal Corporation to develop multiple central business districts. This study proposes a novel approach to measure the resilience of road networks in an urban region under floods caused due to heavy rainfall. A novel Road Network Resilience Index (RNRI) based on the serviceability of the road network during floods is proposed, estimated using Analytic Hierarchy Process - Multiple Criteria Evaluation (AHP-MCE) approaches by using the change in street centrality, impervious area and road network density. This study examines and analyses the resilience of road networks in two conditions: flood and nonflood conditions. Resilience was estimated for both the conditions at the city level and the decentralized zone level. Findings Based on RNRI values, this study identifies zones having a lower or higher resilience index. The central, southern and eastern zones have lower road network resilience and western and northern zones have high road network resilience. Practical implications The proposed methodology can be used to increase road network resilience within the city under flood conditions. Originality/value The previous literature on road network resilience concentrates on the physical properties of roads after flood events. This study demonstrates the use of nonstructural measures to improve the resilience of the road network by innovatively using the AHP-MCE approach and street centrality to measure the resilience of the road network.

Military logistics are ranked among the critical components contributing to the military operation's success. The efficiency of military logistics support relies on its rapid response when a favorable choice of route and a high-performance vehicle is utilized. This study was conducted in Sabah to explore the logistics support's effectiveness, with the military establishment scattered around Sabah while the central depot is remotely located from Kota Kinabalu to support the logistics required for the whole military. Further, a qualitative inquiry methodology was utilized in exploring the nature of issues. The interview protocol was prepared as a guideline. This study used purposeful snowball sampling and resulted in 17 key informants, comprised of military transport drivers and officers. A semi-structured interview was conducted with these key informants. This study found that the main challenges were the military troop transporting logistics on mountainous and poor road conditions. Moreover, the vehicle used to transport logistics is old, aging, and inefficient to perform logistics support. Hence, it is imperative was found that the transportation system consisting of Drivers, Roads, and Vehicles has a direct impact on inefficient military logistics support. In light of these challenges, a framework of transportation system impacts on military logistics in Sabah was developed. This study contributes to gaining more insight into the transportation system's influence on Sabah's military logistics efficiency. Finally, this paper offers a solution that is the right time to replace the military vehicles since most of the vehicles were already beyond their economic life.
