Assessing Regional Differences in Green Innovation Efficiency of Industrial Enterprises in China

Abstract: Green technology innovation is an important means to break out of the constraints of resources and the environment, enhance the competitiveness of enterprises, and achieve the upgrading of industrial structures, and promote high-quality economic growth. In order to realize the overall improvement of the green technology innovation capability of Chinese enterprises, it is necessary to measure the efficiency of industrial enterprises’ green technology innovation and explore their regional differences. In this pa… Show more

“…First, government support is conducive to promoting sustainable economic development in various regions. The government's support for sustainable economic activities in the region is mainly reflected in the implementation of grants or tax incentives, which can reduce the cost of corporate green emission reduction activities, stimulate the enthusiasm of enterprises to adopt low-carbon technologies, and have a positive impact on carbon emissions reduction [6,53]. We choose the ratio of local fiscal expenditure to GDP as a proxy variable (GOV).…”

“…As a responsible developing country, China put forward its goal at the 2015 Paris Climate Conference: To achieve a peak in CO 2 emissions around 2030, with carbon intensity reduced by 60% to 65% compared to 2005. Therefore, under the background of increasingly tight carbon emission reduction constraints, how to reduce carbon emissions while ensuring high-quality economic development is the core issue under the "new normal" [6,7].…”

“…(3) While the ER purifies the logistics environment in the logistics process, it is suggested to consider the greening of both forward logistics links and the reverse logistics system in the supply chain [43,44,48]. In accordance with the concept of sustainable development, a reverse logistics system for processing products and packaging should be established.…”

“…On the contrary, some scholars believed that ER has a negative effect on the promotion of GTFP. Jiang [41], Jin [42], and Du et al [43] studied the effect of ER on the industrial GTFP and the GTFP of high-energy-consumption industries, respectively. They all reached the conclusion that increasing ER intensity could produce a certain effect of innovation compensation, but it was not enough to make up for the ER-induced compliance costs of enterprises.…”

“…Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a suitable technique for assessing the performance of green economy. Considering multiple inputs and outputs, this method constructs a multifactor performance evaluation model using linear programming to derive a production frontier for measuring efficiency [38]. However, the performance changes across periods could not be well evaluated by this method [20].…”
