Assessing industrialized countries’ environmental sustainability performances using an integrated multi-criteria model and software

Abstract: This study seeks to identify and highlight the differences in the environmental sustainability and environmental protection practices of industrialized countries. For this purpose, thirty industrialized countries were examined using a multi-criteria integrated decision model based on fourteen environmental sustainability performance criteria. An open-source software based on the Python that allows different multi-criteria decision-making methods to be used through a user-friendly interface was developed for ev… Show more

“…The difference mainly lies in that some studies do not take into account the impact of informal environmental regulation [ 123 ], or there are certain differences in the selection of environmental regulation indicators and research areas[ 124 ]. Based on the environment of green development[ 125 ], this paper focuses more on the quantitative description of environmental indicators[ 126 ]. The main significance of this conclusion is to promote the green transformation of key industries[ 11 ], strictly implement the dual control of energy consumption, resolutely curb the blind development of “two high” projects, promote the solution of the bottleneck problem of realizing the value of ecological products, comprehensively promote the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure, promote the upgrading of industrial foundation and the rationalization of industrial distribution, and shape the new advantages of innovation-driven development under the background of China 's environmental policy adjustment and optimization of energy structure [ 90 ].…”

“…The primary objective of the REF methods is to help decision-makers obtain the best decision by using references for each criterion. REF methods differ from other MCDA methods in the literature in that they provide a framework for identifying the reference value as a range/interval, taking into account secondary reference (successor) values/intervals, and evaluating criteria measured by different scales [8][9][10][11][12]34].…”

“…AHP (11) method is suitable for subjective criteria, but CRITIC and SWARA shall be used for objective criteria. Kırda and Aytekin (12) applied the CRITIC technique to calculate the variable weight in assessing environmental sustainability performances. Wu et al (13) compared and examined the criterion weight using CRITIC and entropy (14) with a numerical example.…”
