Assessing industrial ecosystem vulnerability in the coal mining area under economic fluctuations

Abstract: In the context of the depth adjustment of the global economy and wild fluctuations in energy prices, the vulnerability issue of the coal mining industrial ecosystem (CMIES) has seriously affected the sustainable development of the regional economy. Comparisons of CMIES health status at a regional level are worthy of being conducted. This not only contributes to understanding a particular coal mining area's situation in regards to CMIES vulnerability, but also helps to discover a meaningful benchmark to learn t… Show more

“…Moran's I is an index of spatial correlation [58], reflecting the similarity of the spatially adjacent regions. It is widely used in research on ecological security [59], ecological vulnerability assessments [60], and ecosystem services change [61]. In this study, Moran's I was utilized to study the spatial correlation between ESH and urbanization, including the global bivariate Moran's I and local bivariate Moran's I (bivariate Local Indicators of Partial Association (LISA)).…”

“…Other indexes inspired the chosen strategy, formulation, and conceptual framework. Energy vulnerability in coal mining industrial ecosystem is measured by Wang et al (2017). The resulting benchmark index aims at evaluating the framework of energy prices volatility, whereas sustainable development is related to regional development.…”

“…In the last ten years, the coal industry authorities realized the negative effects and started to reduce the outdated capacity and curb new projects with over capacity [6]. Meanwhile, recognizing the clear use of coal resources is the principal way to reduce carbon emissions, a series of successful practices have been carried out on many coal bases in China and try to achieve the sustainable development of ecology and economy.…”

“…Thanks to the social responsibility and technology ability of these stateowned enterprises, more effective and cleaner coal mining and utilization methods have the chance to be developed and took into practice, which is also a strong foundation of sustainable development of the coal industry. In the last ten years, the coal industry authorities realized the negative effects and started to reduce the outdated capacity and curb new projects with over capacity [6]. Meanwhile, recognizing the clear use of coal resources is the principal way to reduce carbon emissions, a series of successful practices have been carried out on many coal bases in China and try to achieve the sustainable development of ecology and economy.…”
