Assessing Creativity Specific to Engineering with the Revised Creative Engineering Design Assessment

Abstract: BACKGROUNDIn engineering, creativity is vital for innovation. The revised Creative Engineering Design Assessment (CEDA) also assesses Usefulness, unlike existing tools. PURPOSE (HYPOTHESIS)The primary purpose was to test for convergent validity of the CEDA with other engineering creativity and engineering specific measures. The CEDA was administered with the Purdue Creativity Test (PCT), the Purdue Spatial Visualization Test-Rotations (PSVT-R), and a Systems Test that assessed rollercoaster design functionalit… Show more

“…In order to achieve this objective, the area of Industrial Design needs to draw on other complementary disciplines, such as Engineering, Ergonomics, Material Science, inter alia, as it would not be impossible to build or conceive this type of products in isolation [5,7].…”

“…We describe innovative design as the act of generating novel concepts, processes, or designs. Innovative design is closely linked to creativity, 6 using and implementing creative ideas to develop something tangible, real, or meaningful in a societal context. This type of innovation may be described as incremental, leading to small changes, or radical, leading to a complete rethinking of existing practices and designs, or generating entirely new concepts altogether.…”
