Assessing anatomical distribution of atopic dermatitis identifies a cluster of patients with late onset and low risk of asthma and allergy: An observational study

Abstract: Background and Aims: A better understanding of distinct subgroups in atopic dermatitis (AD) is warranted. The aim was to identify and determine characteristics of clusters based on anatomical location of AD. Methods:In this 8-week, observational, decentralized study, patients with AD completed a baseline questionnaire about anatomical location and severity of AD, and a principal component analysis (PCA) was applied to identify clusters. The Patient-Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM) was completed weekly and photog… Show more

“…These patients were most probably representing type 1 psoriasis, which has a positive family history, starts before age 40, and is associated with HLA-Cw6, while type 2 psoriasis does not show a family history, presents after age 40, and is not associated with HLA-Cw6 [ 15 ]. Further, there was also an overrepresentation of women, which is very common in online studies [ 16 , 17 ]. The conversion of the self-assessment scale from a 0–10 scale to a 0–4 scale could introduce some inaccuracies.…”
