Assessing American Red Cross First Aid mobile app user trends: Implications for resilience

Abstract: Mobile apps can be a resourceful tool. This study shows that mobile app use increases during a disaster. The findings indicate that there is potential to use mobile apps for building resilience as the apps provide information to support individuals and communities in helping before, during, and after disasters.

“…There were also strong negative associations at phylum level between Cyanobacteria and weight and hyperlipidemia; Saccharibacteria and weight, diastolic blood pressure, and total cholesterol; and Spirochaetae and weight, systolic hypertension, and total cholesterol. With regard to specific functional microbial populations, there was 1) a reduction of SCFAproducing bacteria Lachnospiraceae, Rikenellaceae, and Ak- kermansia and 2) an increase in proinflammatory bacteria combined with 3) a decrease in enteroprotective bacteria (38,70). Metataxonomic analysis showed increases in secondary bile acid-producing bacteria, and serum metabolomic profiles indicated increased relative circulating saturated fatty acid concentrations in MetS pigs compared with controls.…”

“…Past research has proven that text message and mobile apps are a practical and effective tool for public health and emergency communications [ 30 32 ]. Specifically, mass gathering events create high level ambient noise that makes other forms of verbal communication challenging [ 33 ].…”

“…While the efficacy of just-in-time preparedness that ARC apps encourage cannot be ethically measured, it's deemed that thousands were able to access vital information that reduced the stressors and suffering of navigating a natural disaster [7]. A similar trend occurred when another study analyzed ARC app user trends during tornadoes between 2013 and 2014 [8].…”
