“…The design of the assessments builds on a large body of research over several decades focused on defining effective teaching and designing performance assessments to measure it (SCALE, 2015b). Most prominent among edTPA predecessors was the work of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), which administered its first assessments in 1994 and has been the subject of extensive research (National Research Council, 2008). The NBPTS portfolio assessment included a variety of performance measures such as video, written analysis of teaching and assessment practices (including student work samples), outside evaluation of teachers’ professional performance, and a written exam.…”
