Assembly process optimization for reducing the dimensional error of antenna assembly with abundant rivets

Abstract: This paper proposes a process optimization method to improve the dimensional precision of riveted assemblies. The method representation and investigation use an assembly with 1093 rivets yielded from the double curved reflector. Firstly the static and dynamic finite element (FE) models respectively represent the global large-scale assembly and the local riveting process. The dimensional precision is denoted by the root mean square (RMS) of the deformations of the key points selected from the static FE nodes. T… Show more

“…4 Then, the authors adopt the local-to-global dimensional calculation and propose a framework of assembly process optimization for reducing the dimensional error of the antenna assembly with abundant solid rivets. That investigation 5 reveals that the reduction in RMS prefers to solve the rivet upsetting directions (UDs) and the assembly sequence step by step because the RMS of such antenna structure is more sensitive to the change of rivet UDs.…”

“…The local-to-global dimensional error calculation gives birth to the assembly process optimizations for the solid riveting. 2 The rivet UD optimization is a solution to the first step of the assembly process optimization for the assembly with abundant solid rivets. 3 The proposed method is for the second step and is a new pattern of the AS planning that begins to target both the assembly efficiency and precision.…”
