Assembly and Catalytic Properties of Cobalt(II) and Copper(II) Coordination Polymers Based on Bis(imidazole) and Carboxylic Acid Mixed Ligands

Abstract: Two CoII/CuII coordination polymers, [Co(bim)(ip)]n (1) and [Cu3(nip)2(OH)(bim)(H2O)]n (2) [bim = bis(imidazol‐1‐yl)methane, H2ip = isophthalic acid and H2nip = 5‐nitroisophthalic acid], were synthesized by reactions of metal acetate with H2ip or H2nip in the presence of bim ligand under hydrothermal conditions. The polymers were characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy, TGA, XRPD, and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. Compound 1 shows a 2D (4, 4) layer structure with CoII ions at the nodes, which … Show more

“…As we all know, organic azo dyes are widely used in the fields of pharmaceutical, textile, food and cosmetics industries [ 25 ]. The discharge of wastewater containing organic azo dyes will cause serious hazard to human health and ecological environment owing to their complex aromatic structures that are highly resistant to conventional wastewater treatment process [ 26 ]. To reduce the damage of organic dyes to environment, it is a requirement for us to develop an alternative technique that can effectively degrade the organic dyes in waste water.…”

“…In comparable structure, 42 the 1,2-bib ligands act as pillars to bridge the adjacent [Co 2 (butca)] layers to afford a porous 3D host frameworks with two kinds of metal-1,2bib helical chains. In other related compounds, 43,44 the exible bis(imidazole) ligands assemble transition metal ions into 1D, 2D and 3D structures, respectively. In Zn(II) complex, 38 the 1,2-bib ligands and carboxylate ligands coordinate to Zn(II) centers to a twofold interpenetration of nets.…”

“…Protonation results in the decrease of electronic density over all atoms within these rings, while deprotonation leads to the opposite effect. [52] This possible tailoring of electronic density by protonation deprotonation can be useful for the planning and development of coordination polymers and polynuclear complexes with applications in materials chemistry [60][61][62] , bioinorganic [63] and catalysis [64] .…”
