“…In the case of petroleum asphaltenes, their solubility properties impact many aspects of reservoir evaluation, production, transportation, refining, and paving and coatings. ,,, Petroleum asphaltenes’ interfacial activity with rocks affects wettability , with potential applications in enhanced oil recovery. Reservoir fluid geodynamics and reservoir evaluation use new asphaltene thermodynamics to evaluate fluid equilibrium and connectivity. ,, Furthermore, understanding the chemical processes that occur in oil reservoirs is enhanced by asphaltenes’ precise structural characterization. ,,, …”

“…As explain earlier one way to neutralize this is to use demulsifiers [114][115] that can turn droplet interface from viscoelastic to viscose again. Demuslfication include variety of methods that has been enumerated in our previous publication 22 .…”

“…Another problem that petroleum business faces; is asphaltene precipitation and aggregation that during process of extraction of oil or moving it into refineries causes various flow issues. To investigate aggregation and precipitation; state of the art characterization tools have been employed including using simulations, model compounds (synthetic and refined ones) and microfluidics among others [22][23][24] . The asphaltene in the oil products will continue to be stable under equilibrium circumstances.…”

“…The first images of asphaltene molecules were obtained by combining atomic-resolution imaging using atomic force microscopy and molecular orbital imaging using scanning tunneling microscopy . Probing the structure of over 100 species revealed a large molecular polydispersity with a dominant island architecture. A typical structure consisted of a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) core and peripheral alkyl chains. A significant width of the distribution of ring sizes and chain lengths may exist depending on the origin of the asphaltenes, the processing methods they are subjected to, and the solvent used to extract them. Coal asphaltenes, for example, contain smaller polycyclic aromatic cores and much fewer alkane substitutions than petroleum asphaltenes .…”
