“…Literature values range from 175 kg ha -1 (Goldman & Talbot 1976) to 2373 kg ha -1 (Williams & Hatcher 1983). Although densities and species richness were underrepresented in visual censuses, total biomass estimates did not appear to change substantially with the additional data from the rotenone collections.…”

“…There are some distribution data to support this. Goldman and Talbot (1976) found 216 species associated with leeward (complex and rich in coral species) reef slopes and 89 at windward (stunted, species-poor) slopes. Similarly, Jones and Chase (1975) recorded 138 species from steep coral rich slopes and 91 from barrier reef flats and Harmelin- Vivien (1979) recorded 228 species from structurally complex, coral rich reef flats and 131 from dead coral rubble bank areas.…”

“…Chave & Eckert 1974, Goldman & Talbot 1976, Gladfelter & Gladfelter 1978, Gladfelter et al 1980, Williams 1982, Bell & Galzin 1984). Thus we expected that the structure of fish communities associated with coral reefs damaged by Acanthaster planci would be altered as a result of environmental changes.…”
