“…Let us finally consider the African varieties of Portuguese already described in the literature. GBP shows similarities to the contour found for the Angolan variety of Libolo, described as L+H* L% (Santos, 2020), which also has a high pitch accent associated with the stressed syllable of the nuclear prosodic word of the yes-no question, followed by a low boundary tone L%. The author also attested a high tonal density for the LbP yes-no questions in the reading task data.…”

“…Tone systems apparently also characterize other African Romance varieties, among them the French varieties of Côte d’Ivoire ( Boutin and Turscan, 2009 ) and Mali ( Bordal and Skattum, 2014 ). The data on African varieties of Portuguese is not conclusive (e.g., Santos, 2019 for Angolan Portuguese). But it would be unusual if these varieties had stress-only systems, since most of them are spoken in tonal ecologies.…”

“…Mesmo em Angola, onde o português, além de possuir o estatuto de língua oficial, é, desde o século XX, a língua mais falada do país (INE, 2014), as demais línguas autóctones não foram extintas (SANTOS, 2018). Assim, diversas línguas do grupo banto estão presentes e são empregadas em território angolano, a despeito de haver dificuldades na implementação de uma política linguística que contemple as demais línguas nacionais de Angola (SANTOS, 2018).…”
