Aspectos bioecológicos de Stellifer rastrifer (Perciformes: Sciaenidae) na Baía de Santos, SP

Abstract

• Abstract: As manyas 7,260 specimens of the sciaenid Stellifer rastriferwere collected through a monthly beach seine and bottom trawl survey in the compIex bay-estuary of Santos and São Vicente, between March 1985 and May 1986. The occurrence, abundance, length frequency, intluence of environmental factors, length-weight relationship, growth, recruitment and mortality were analysedS. rastrifer occurred year-round and was more abundant and frequent in falI at west side of medium and inner stracta. Young of the year was fust caught from January to May in deeper water areas and later they were found in shallow areas low with salinity and high temperature. The low catches found in spring may be related to a massive emigration to open sea (summer spawning). S. rastrifer showed higher values for growth coefficient and for total mortality and exploitation rates.

Biology of Isopisthus parvipinnis: an abundant sciaenid species captured bycatch during sea-bob shrimp fishery in Brazil

Research regarding biological aspects of I. parvipinnis has been conducted in the southern (Coelho et al, 1988;Chaves et al, 1998;Chaves et al, 2003) and south-eastern regions (Soares, 1989;Giannini & Paiva-Filho, 1994;Soares & Vazzoler, 2001) of Brazil, but there are no studies on this species in northeastern area. Especially in this region, the continental shelf is very close (about 32 km) (França, 1979), and because of this the low depth trawling is concentrated in few areas, possibly increasing the impacts.…”
