“…This result suggests that modification of HDL 3 by saccharin and acesulfame K did not impair the CETP activity, although the antioxidant activity was much impaired. This result is in good agreement with our previous report, which found that saccharinfed zebrafish show the highest serum CETP activity [4]. It is interesting that all AS-treated HDL 3 showed increased CETP activity with loss of PON activity.…”

“…In addition, saccharin-fed zebrafish show an increased atherogenic serum lipid profile along with elevated CETP activity [4]. Taken together, these findings suggest that AS has putative toxicity in the human cardiovascular system zebrafish for 2 weeks showed remarkable increase of serum cholesterol and TG, suggesting that increase of cardiovascular risk.…”

“…Zebrafish were maintained at 28 ± 1 o C under a 14:10 hr light:dark cycle. After feeding for 4 weeks as designated in Table 1, blood (2 μl) was drawn and analyzed, as our previous report (8). Measurements of serum and hepatic parameters were carried out as described in Supplemental methods.…”

“…In this study, we used a hyperlipidemic zebrafish (Danio rerio) model, in which hypercholesterolemia was induced by a high cholesterol diet (HCD) to mimic early atherogenesis and concurrent complications, as suggested by the Miller group (7). We recently reported that atherosclerosis and hypercholesterolemia were induced by feeding a HCD to adult zebrafish for several weeks (1,2,8). Among lipoproteins, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is the major cholesterol carrier in the human blood.…”
