Asian Conference on Tumor Ablation Guidelines for Adrenal Tumor Ablation

Abstract: Thermal ablation is a good alternative treatment in patients who are unable to undergo adrenalectomy. Even though the Asian Conference on Tumor Ablation (ACTA) has been held for many years, adrenal ablation guidelines have not been established. No guidelines for adrenal ablation are established in American and European countries, either. The aim of this review was to introduce the first version of ACTA guidelines for adrenal tumor ablation.

“…Trans-renal ablation and hydrodissection were technically successful in the present case without significant complications. The kidney is a hypervascular organ compared with during ablation can lead to serious complications, such as perforation, peritonitis, abscess, or sepsis [2,6]. An injured pancreas may develop acute pancreatitis, juice leakage, or abscess formation [7].…”

“…In addition, there is a possibility of incomplete resection of aldosterone-secreting lesions. Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation is performed under local anesthesia and sedation with minimal skin incision [ 120 ]. This may be acceptable as an alternative for patients who are reluctant to undergo surgery and for those who are not eligible for a surgery due to their comorbidities.…”

“…Image-guided thermal ablation (TA) has been increasingly applied for treating benign and malignant tumors in a wide range of organs [ 1 , 2 ], including the liver [ 3 , 4 ], lung [ 5 , 6 ], kidney [ 7 ], bone [ 8 ], thyroid [ 9 , 10 ], adrenal [ 11 , 12 ], and soft tissue [ 13 , 14 ]. TA produces high temperatures locally to induce irreversible cell injury, ultimately tumor apoptosis, and coagulative necrosis [ 2 , 15 , 16 ].…”
