Abstract

The Enigmatic Theories of Light: A Possibility for the Integration of Topics from Modern Physics into High School Education The Master's research in question aimed to enable students from a Public School in the State of São Paulo to learn concepts of Modern Physics. To achieve this, teaching materials were developed, structured in a pedagogical sequence entitled "The Enigmatic Theories of Light," elaborated in stages and defined as a course.The main focus of the research was to explore theories that address the nature of light in physics and, with the help of Didactic Transposition, identify and understand how to bring this knowledge into a classroom. Consequently, we defined low-cost materials that would allow for a demonstration of the studied phenomena and, furthermore, facilitate their reproduction by other teachers.The course was taught to some high school students at the chosen school, and for analysis, it was decided to apply it to a class that included students from all third years of the school who were interested in the subject. As a result, during the course of the classes, it was understood how willing some students are to embrace new practices in the teaching of physics and, furthermore, they demonstrate an interest in science when applied to their daily lives.The classes demonstrated the feasibility of introducing innovative practices in the school institution, always emphasizing the difficulty that this entails and that only those in the school environment understand that we have to deal with atypical and unplanned situations that require us to have the capacity for adaptation and re-planning.Finally, with the assistance of the Didactic Transposition analysis tool, we found that it was possible, through theories that address the nature of light in physics, to provide students from a public school in the city of São Paulo with an understanding of the truths of Modern Physics.
