Abstract: Bacterial arylmalonate decarboxylase (AMDase) is an intriguing cofactor-independent enzyme with a broad substrate spectrum. Particularly, the highly stereoselective transformation of diverse arylmalonic acids into the corresponding chiral α-arylpropionates has contributed to the broad recognition of this biocatalyst.
