Aryldiones incorporating a [1,4,5]oxadiazepane ring. Part 2: Chemistry and biology of the cereal herbicide pinoxaden

Abstract: The biological potential of pinoxaden and its active principle pinoxaden dione in terms of grass weed control and tolerance in cereals was fully exploited by inclusion of the safener cloquintocet-mexyl in the formulation in combination with a specific and tailor-made tank-mix adjuvant based on methylated rape seed oil.

“…Acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACCase; EC 6.4.1.2), crucial for the metabolism of fatty acids, is a biotin‐dependent carboxylase that produces malonyl‐CoA from bicarbonate as a source of carboxyl group, and ATP as a source of energy . Besides the known ACCase active herbicide classes cyclohexanediones (CHDs) and ( R )‐configurated (het)aryloxyphenoxypropionates (AOPPs), the phenylpyrazolinone pinoxaden (2006; Syngenta) (Fig. ) was developed as proherbicide (R = CO‐ tert ‐Bu) for the selective post‐emergence control of key annual grass weeds in cereals.…”

“…The proherbicide pinoxaden (Axial ® , 2006; Syngenta) can be applied from the two‐leaf stage up to the flag leaf stage of grasses, and has a weed spectrum that covers a wide range of key annual grass species such as blackgrass ( Alopecurus myosuroides ), silky bent grass ( Apera spica venti ), wild oats ( Avena spp. ), ryegrass ( Lolium spp.…”

“…Palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions are becoming a valuable tool in the synthesis of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteratom bonds in modern chemistry [1][2][3]. These reactions are widely applied in pharmaceutical intermediates, polymer functional materials, pesticides, dyes and organic electroluminescent materials [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. Particularly, Over 60% of the carboncarbon bond-forming processes in medicinal chemistry are now accomplished using the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction because of its low toxicity, high-efficiency good functional group tolerance and mild reaction conditions [13,14].…”
