Arvedi ESP for High-Quality Hot-Strip Production at Rizhao Steel

Abstract: With five Arvedi ESP lines, Rizhao Steel in China is now focusing on the highly attractive local and export markets for high-quality, thin-gauge strip products. The first lines began operations in 2015.High-strength but lightweight car bodies, ultra-thin structures paired with the highest tensile strength – and all at the lowest production costs. Innovative processes are required in order to fulfil the demands of the car and metals industries. With precise thermo-mechanical rolling and rigorous temperature gui… Show more

“…It became possible to produce a wide variety of steel grades with these technologies like ultra-low carbon (ULC) to high carbon steels (HC), electrical steels, different types of high-strength and alloyed steels. 42,46,47,[51][52][53][54][55] Summing up, over the last decades, TSCR processes have become highly competitive, mainly due to the development of the endless process (Arvedi ESP), higher thin slab thickness, and the steadily extended production portfolio. The ongoing transformation from integrated steel production towards scrap-based electric arc furnace steelmaking and the dynamic development of TSCR processes result in the question of the role of tramp elements for surface oxidation in solid state in TSCR processes in general.…”

“…Due to the differences in design ideas and equipment arrangement of these endless production lines, different effects on the microstructure and properties of hot rolled steel are inevitable. at present, relevant researches mainly focus on the advantages of endless production line [6][7][8] and its product [9][10][11], but lack of detailed research on comprehensive performance. Drawability and stretchability of low carbon steel sheets produced by the CeM process [12] and the eSP process [13] are investigated, and it is considered that these differences are related to the effects of manufacturing processes of different production lines on the mi-crostructure, texture and earing behavior of steel plates.…”

“…So the thin slab casting and direct rolling (TSCR) technology has been rapidly applied and widely used in the world. Especially, in recent years, ESP with the new technology of endless rolling and the advanced equipment has aroused widespread concern of researchers in the metallurgy field because of its great benefits in cost saving and ultra-thin strip production [2][3][4][5], however, little systematic indicators are used to illustrate the achievements of the ESP line [6][7][8]. This article mainly exploited the detailed productive data of endless strip production in Rizhao steel to illustrate the achievements of ESP in reducing costs, good performance, green manufacturing, and to support the promotion of endless rolling technology.…”
