Artisanal fisheries in Karina and Akköy Coastal Lagoons

Abstract: In this study, construction and efficiency of artisanal fishing gears used in Karina and Akköy (Arapça, Karaca, Bölme and Kabahayıt) coastal lagoons were investigated. Data were gathered with face to face interviews in the years of 2013-2014 field surveys. According to results, the vast majority of fish in Karina and Akköy coastal lagoons were caught by artisanal fishing gears (trammel net, fyke net and longline). 90% and 50% of the total production are obtained with these gears in Karina and Akköy lagoons, re… Show more

“…The fish specimens were collected by different sampling methods and fishing gears, such as backpack electrofishing (SAMUS 225G), cast net (10–16 mm mesh size), gill net (18–45 mm mesh size), and Söke‐type fyke net (Kaykaç, Tosunoğlu, & Tosunoğlu, 2015), which were considered the most convenient fishing gears for each site with different depths (30 cm–5 m) and widths (5–30 m). In order to standardize the sampling effort the electrofishing was performed three times – for about 15 min each time – in a segment of about 20 m in length (Hauer & Lamberti, 2007).…”
