“…River regulation such as WSRS results in biogeomorphic variation of estuarine saltmarshes in surface elevation, inundation and salinity (Han et al, 2018;Yang et al, 2020), and the resultant response of plant species to changing environments is complicated (Carle et al, 2015;Snedden et al, 2015). The artificial controls on water and sediment input may cause regime shifts in morphological evolution of estuaries and deltas, such as progradation of delta lobes and crevasse splays vs. avulsions (Nienhuis et al, 2018;Gao et al, 2019), which could further affect estuarine biogeomorphic environments (Xu et al, 2016).
