Artificial Neural Network Approach to Predict Biodiesel Production in Supercritical tert-Butyl Methyl Ether

Abstract: In this study, for the first time artificial neural network was used to predict biodiesel yield in supercritical tert-butyl methyl ether (MTBE). The experimental data of biodiesel yield conducted by varying four input factors (i.e. temperature, pressure, oil-to-MTBE molar ratio, and reaction time) were used to elucidate artificial neural network model in order to predict biodiesel yield. The main goal of this study was to assess how accurately this artificial neural network model to predict biodiesel yield con… Show more

“…(Kathare & Undre, 2016) To produce energy, current developments still use petroleum oil. (Sharma & Singh, 2009) Although biodiesel has been well known as one of the promising renewable energies as a biodegradable, renewable, environmentally benign, and clean-burning substitute for petroleum diesel fuel, (Farobie & Hasanah, 2016) the use of petroleum cannot be disappeared. Therefore, strategies to get petroleum oil are inevitable.…”

“…Therefore, these disastrous effects have led many researchers worldwide to find out alternative fuel. Biodiesel has such a great potential to replace petroleum-derived diesel fuel owing to higher biodegradability [3][4][5], lower CO exhaust emission [6][7][8][9], and higher flash point [10][11][12] compared to conventional diesel fuel.…”

“…Biodiesel or fatty acid methyl ester can be produced from renewable resources such as palm oil, soybean oil, rapeseed oil, and coconut oil [1]. The utilization of biodiesel also has lower CO, hydrocarbon (HC), and particulate matters emissions [2][3][4]. Therefore, biodiesel's implementation follows the united nations' sustainable development goals (UN SDGs), which will promote the achievement of goal 7 to extend the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix [5] considerably.…”
