Artificial magnetic conductor‐backed dual‐band shared‐aperture antenna array for base station applications

Abstract: A low‐profile dual‐band dual‐polarized base station antenna array is proposed. The dual‐band array is backed by an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) surface. The AMC achieves profile reduction to 0.159 λL0 in the low band (LB), but it acts as a bandpass metasurface in the high band (HB). The nested design of AMC unit cell creates two out‐of‐phase induced currents with lower intensities, enabling suppression and cancelation of HB scattered fields. The back cavities establish clear and independent radiating en… Show more

“…The development of modern wireless communication technology requires the fifth‐generation communication system to be compatible with 2G/3G/4G communication systems. At the same time, to obtain better performance in a limited space, the size of the base station antenna is required to be as small as possible, so the compact dual‐frequency base station antenna is the current research focus 1–4 . To realize the dual‐band characteristic, a common approach is to design a dual‐band antenna, and the other is to use independent antenna units.…”

[1][2][3][4] To realize the dual-band characteristic, a common approach is to design a dualband antenna, and the other is to use independent antenna units. The technical difficulty lies in how to arrange the spatial position of the antenna so that the electrical properties of the upper and lower-band units will not interfere with each other.…”
